In this series, I interview experts to get insights, opinions, and specific strategies to level up SEO businesses.
Goals of this post
My goal with this interview series is to talk to expert consultants to get the best strategies, tips on hiring experts, ideas and recommendations on tools and resources.
I have asked Alex Cooper a few questions to learn his opinions about the most recent SEO topics.
Can you mention who is Alex Cooper and how did you start internet marketing?
I’m a 40-year-old, British father of 2. I originally discovered Internet marketing around 18 years ago when I was running my own WIFI installation company. I met a consultant at the time who showed me the power of Google AdWords and SEO. Before long I had sales leads flying into my business.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t enjoying the WIFI business but I was fascinated by Internet Marketing and the fact that so many businesses weren’t using it effectively. After some deliberation, I decided to sell the WIFI business and set up an Internet Marketing consultancy with my consultant.
The venture was a success and we ended up working out of London for large corporate clients and other small to medium-sized businesses. I ultimately ended up selling the business which enabled me to focus my time on my own smaller projects that I could run at home with my family, including my YouTube channel.
I know produce videos for YouTube on WordPress and affiliate marketing as well as running my own affiliate marketing websites.
Do you think Google Sandbox exists? If yes, what are your experiences with it?
I think it does exist, but I’ve never had any experience with it. Google is always going to treat new sites with caution, but providing you to produce good content and follow Google guidelines you should be ranking in no time.
What are the key factors in ranking pages better?
You can break it down into 3 areas.
1. Visibility – Making sure your site is technically sound and easily read by the search engine spiders. I recently shared a video on this that include over 60 different technical points you need to consider: https://www.wpeagle.com/promote/seo/13-essential-seo-tasks-you-must-do-to-rank-well/
2. Content – Create content based on what people are actually looking for. The content needs to provide value by answering people’s search queries with accuracy and relevance. Here’s how I put together my content: https://www.wpeagle.com/promote/seo/how-to-create-content-for-your-affiliate-site/
3) Reputation – You need to build a strong online reputation. This stems from your good content, but you can accelerate the process with Social Media and online discussion forums.
What kind of keyword research process are you following?
My process is to use Google suggestions as a starting point for keyword and content ideas. Once I’ve created a list from Google I will expand it with tools like Keywords Everywhere and answer the public. Once I have a good long list I will start to group the keywords into subject themes.
Do you have a specific strategy to earn featured snippets?
Not really. I just make sure that I structure my articles well so it’s easier for Google to index them. This means using good sub-headings, bullet points, table of contents and clear concise plugins. It’s also important to use a good SEO plugin like Rank Math.
